Fixing Our Gaze~ Day 4 (31 Days of Wisdom)

When I was first learning to drive, I got some excellent advice from my father. One day, as we were cruising down a dirt road out in the country, I found myself struggling to keep the car moving in a straight, forward direction. I would wander to the left, then meander off to the right, only to drift left again. Driving straight turned out to be a lot harder than I thought. After several miles of crisscrossing back and forth across this road, Daddy gently spoke words of wisdom.

"Quit concentrating on what is on your left or right. Instead, focus all your attention on what's in front of you, on where you are going, on where you want to go."

I told you my Daddy was wise. I took his advice (I am my father's daughter, after all) and soon, I was driving like a pro! No more careening back and forth across the road for this girl. Now, I was wheeling and dealing and finally getting somewhere!

As we journey through life, it is often difficult to keep our focus.

Temptations.

Defeats.

Temptations.

Trials.

Temptations.

Disappointments.

Oh, and let's not forget, temptations!

It's hard to stay on the straight and narrow when we find our self careening around, through, and over all these roadblocks, and yet, that is exactly what they are: road blocks.

The enemy knows if he is successful in catching our eye,

the rest of us will soon follow.

Before we know it,
we will be on a detour we never intended to take,
headed to a destination where we never intended to go.

Today, as I was reading Proverbs 4, my Heavenly Father, my Abba Daddy, gently spoke words of wisdom:
road-sign to heaven

Keep your eyes straight ahead;
ignore all sideshow distractions.
Watch your step,
and the road will stretch out smooth before you.
Look neither right nor left;
leave evil in the dust.
~ Proverbs 4:25-27, The Message

I told you my Abba Daddy is wise. I plan on taking HIS advice (I am my Father's daughter, after all) and soon, I hope to arrive at my destination....

near to the heart of God!

As long as I keep my eyes on God, they'll be no more careening back and forth for this girl.

I'm fixing my gaze on my Heavenly Father and staying true to His path.

Yes, I'm following the path of wisdom all the way to my Heavenly home.

How about you?
