31 Days of Wisdom - Day 1

Welcome to "31 Days of Wisdom".

Each day in August, I will be focusing on a key verse or passage of scripture in the book of Proverbs. Since August has thirty-one days and the book of Proverbs has thirty-one chapters, this seems like a perfect fit and a truly wise way to spend the next thirty-one days.

After all, who doesn't want to be wise?

We all do, and yet, foolishly, (if you are like me), we often go searching for wisdom in all the wrong places.

As I have made my way around the book of Proverbs, I have discovered two central themes:

Point #1
Wisdom begins with the Lord

Wisdom begins with the fear of the LORD, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7, CEB

For the reverence and fear of God are basic to all wisdom. Knowing God results in every other kind of understanding. ~Proverbs 9:10

If we are to be wise, we must know God, for all wisdom is found in Him.

Point # 2

We must have a teachable spirit

Quite honestly, this might be the hardest part of becoming wise. For some reason, heeding instruction doesn't come easy to us humans. From the moment we are born, our desire to explore and learn begins. But, our willingness to follow counsel and do as we're told, well, that is an entirely different thing.

And yet, wouldn't you agree, those who are truly wise are the ones who listen to and then follow the wise advice of others?

If you and I are to drink from the fountain of wisdom, we must first sit at the feet of God and gaze upon His face. We must begin to know, truly know, the Lover of our soul, our precious Saviour, our Abba Daddy.

As we come to know Him, He will be faithful to guide us, lead us, and impart His wisdom.
We, then, must be ready to

receive His counsel,

be open to follow His instruction,

and be willing to become pliable in His hands,

as He re-creates and molds us into His image.

This is where wisdom begins~

(For my faithful followers, you might recognize this series.  It is how we started 2012 together.  Since January, I have gained some new readers (welcome to all of you!) and the Lord has been leading me back here once again.  I thought maybe another dose of wisdom might do us all good.  I hope you will join me as together we seek God's face, learn of His ways, and grow in Godly wisdom.)
