Cultivating True Beauty~

That which is striking and beautiful is not always good,
but that which is good is always beautiful.
~Ninon de L'Enclos

Do I love you because you're beautiful, Or are you beautiful because I love you?
~Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, Cinderella

What makes a person beautiful?

What makes YOU beautiful?

Dictionary.com defines beauty as:

an individually pleasing or beautiful quality;

grace;

charm:

something excellent of its kind:

the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).

WOW! Did you catch that last definition?

Even Dictionary.com realizes "a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest" is beautiful!

Our beauty comes from the Lord. He is the beautiful one.  When others see beauty in us, it is simply a reflection of HIM.

Just like the moon.

Month after month, I am captivated by the beauty of the moon. And yet, the moon has no beauty of it's own. It is the light of the sun, reflecting from the moon, that makes it appear to be beautiful. In fact, the reason we have  moonless nights is because the moon (for those few days) is "out of line" and not in position to receive or reflect the light of the sun.

The same is true for us.

When we abide in Christ and allow Him to rule our heart, we reflect His beauty.
It's nothing we do, it is simply a reflection of Christ in us.

Yet, when we get "out of line" with Christ, (in moments of selfishness, pride, anger, etc) we no longer reflect His light, and as a result, are not "beautiful" to be around.

Here are a few questions to ponder:

How can you cultivate inner beauty?

Have you seen the beauty of Jesus in other people in your life?

What did this beauty "look" like?

How important do you think this is in our spiritual walk?

True beauty comes from God.

If we are to beautify our world with the beauty of God,
we must first know His beauty.

We must position ourself to seek His face and learn of His ways.

We must mirror our Heavenly Father, so that we can reflect His beauty.
