Drink Up~

I am thirsty for God. I am thirsty for the living God.
When can I go and meet with him? Psalm 42:2

As I was driving home from work the other day, flipping radio stations as I often do, I stumbled upon a short "health nugget".

Do you suffer from frequent headaches?

Yes.

Do you often feel tired? More tired than you think you should?

Yes.

Do you have trouble concentrating and feel like your brain is all fuzzy?

Yes! Yes! Yes! I know exactly what a fuzzy brain feels like.

Then you may be dehydrated.

Dehydrated? Really?

Actually, this revelation wasn't a revelation at all. It was more of a reminder; a wake up call. I know the importance of drinking water. I understand that without it I can get headaches, feel fatigued and have trouble concentrating. And yet, I don't always reach for a glass of sparkling H20 when these symptoms start to appear.

Sometimes, I lay down and try to sleep my headache and my tiredness away. When I can't concentrate, I get up and go for a short walk. While these temporary remedies may help, they are indeed temporary and do nothing to quench my body's thirst.

It's the same spiritually.

Have you been experiencing heartache?

Have you grown tired fighting the good fight of faith?

Has God's will for your life became unclear?

Maybe you are spiritually dehydrated.

I've been there, too.

And while I know these are symptoms of spiritual thirst, I don't always heed the invitation of our precious Jesus.
“All who are thirsty should come to me!
All who believe in me should drink!" John 7:37, 38 CEB

Sometimes, I try rehydrating my soul by sharing my heart with my husband or a close friend. Sometimes, I try to refresh my parched soul by drinking in the entertainment of the world. Sometimes, I try to infuse my dehydrated soul by "tricking" myself into thinking I'm not thirsty at all. Sometimes these temporary remedies work.....but....only temporarily. They never fully satisfy and soon I am thirsty again.....so very thirsty.

If only I would run to Jesus and drink of the living water He offers. Nothing else will ever satisfy because nothing else can.

Only Jesus.

It's time to drink up.

Heavenly Father, How foolish I can be. You are ALL I need. When my soul is thirsty, it is you I long for. Help me to run to you; to drink deeply; to infuse my soul with the living water of YOU. In Jesus' name, Amen~

  1. Hi Stacy - great analogy. I know when I'm spiritually dehydrated, only God's living waters will do.
